The World Turns All Around Her

If you don’t like The Byrds, you just haven’t listened enough.

Seriously, virtually every musician I know (and almost every major rock and roll star I have read about) have enthusiastically cited respect and admiration for The Byrds canon. They put out nine studio albums between 1965 and 1970 – all of which you should own.

What made them so special? Raw musical talent, American folk sensibilities, an appreciation for the British Invasion, gorgeous harmonies and the ability synthesize other songwriters into their sonic vision. Oh – and an electric 12 string.

Though I could offer up many different tracks from several different incarnations of the band, this week’s pick goes to, “The World Turns All Around Her,” a fantastic track from 1965’s “Turn! Turn! Turn!” LP. 12 string guitar, harmonies, gorgeous hooks, great lyrics and a melancholy feel highlight this track which still inspires today.
